We'll hear from Lynn Novick of Florentine Films about her experiences interviewing the veterans for the film. Dave Isay, Founder and Executive Director of StoryCorps will share his insights about collecting and telling the stories. Del Galloway from CPB will share plans about the upcoming Public Awareness Initiative. Click here to download PDF draft agenda.

There is still space open to participate in this training and a few Travel Grants are available. Registration information for this opportunity is on the NCO Website at www.nationaloutreach.org .

Updated NCO Pipeline

The NCO Pipeline has been updated with new information, new projects and new grant opportunities. Go to the NCO Web site to view these new opportunities. You'll receive a hard copy in the mail later this month.

Save the Date: July 26, 2007 1:00 PM CDT. NCO will host a Pipeline Preview highlighting upcoming broadcasts with outreach opportunities.

Tell us what you're doing!

We are collecting station outreach efforts to share within the system. We heard from many of you in response to an email survey we sent a few weeks ago.

If you have not responded to the survey, please take a few minutes to give us the projects you have slated for calendar year 2007.

Email us at nationaloutreach@wpt.org with the following information about your 2007 projects and please include: project title; start/end date; broadcasts connected to effort; target audience.

This information will help us all know what is happening around the country and help us tell the bigger story of how public broadcasting serves our local communities.

CPB creates the
Office of Public Media Engagement

Cheryl Head will manage CPB’s Office of Public Media Engagement. The office will play a central role in the Public Awareness Initiative, coordinating all of CPB’s outreach efforts including the National Center for Outreach and the Community Engagement Initiative in concert with the Harwood Institute.

KETC/Channel 9 Receives Award from Missouri Head Start Association

In February 2007, KETC/Channel 9 in St. Louis won a 2007 Outstanding Partnership Award from the Missouri Head Start Association. The award recognizes KETC for its joint effort with Grace Hill Head Start on the campaign It Only Takes One Step to a Healthy Mind, Body and Soul. The project, headed by KETC Manager of Education Services Dale Berenc, works with Grace Hill's child-care providers to teach good health habits. A story about this project (that was funded in part by an NCO Connector grant) will soon be in the "Stories of Impact" section on the NCO Web site.

What's Happening At Your Station?
Share your outreach news with all of us. We want to know what's happening around the country.

NCO's overriding goal is to assist public broadcasting stations to provide meaningful community engagement locally, helping to foster new and deepen existing community partnerships.
